An ESS permanent paraprofessional for HIGH Intensive class assists the classroom teacher to provide extra support to students with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. The permanent paraprofessional job responsibilities range from supplementing regular classroom curriculum to helping individual students.
Permanent paraprofessionals are also known as school aides, teacher assistants, instructional aides, one-to-one aides, and personal care assistants.
Responsibilities
- Able to commit to Monday-Friday for entire school year
- Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups of students
- Assist teacher with classroom management and general supervision of the class
- Assist with administrative duties such as setting up equipment and preparing materials
- Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after school programs
- Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs pertaining to educational needs, social-emotional, behavioral development, fine and gross motor skills to foster independence
- Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans
- Assist with the physical and minimal health needs of the children, which may include lifting, feeding, toileting/diapering, and personal hygiene.

Qualifications
- Previous experience working with students with autism, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges is require
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with students, teachers, and other school staff.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in challenging situations.
- Passion for working with children and supporting their academic and behavioral development.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative school setting.
- Ability to assist with physical activities such as sitting on the floor, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to respond to student behaviors in a safe and effective manner.
- High School Diploma or GED, Associate's Degree or an equivalent two years of college, Bachelor degree or Paraeducator II certification from the NH Dept of Education.
