An ESS permanent paraeducator assists the classroom teacher to provide extra support to students with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. The substitute paraprofessional job responsibilities range from supplementing regular classroom curriculum to helping individual students.
Responsibilities
- Commit to working Monday-Friday for entire school year
- Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups of students
- Assist teacher with classroom management and general supervision of the class
- Assist with administrative duties such as setting up equipment and preparing materials
- Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after school programs
- Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
- Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans
- Perform other duties as directed by the classroom teacher and school administration
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with students with autism, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges is require
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with students, teachers, and other school staff.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in challenging situations.
- Passion for working with children and supporting their academic and behavioral development.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative school setting.
- Ability to assist with physical activities such as sitting on the floor, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to respond to student behaviors in a safe and effective manner.
- High School Diploma or GED, Associate's Degree or an equivalent two years of college, Bachelor degree or Paraeducator II certification from the NH Dept of Education.

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children or special needs students is preferred.
- Schedule: Absolute commitment to a 5-day-per-week schedule for the full school year.
- Core Skills: Strong communication, patience, dependability, and teamwork skills.
- Student Support: Ability to work effectively with students who have intensive learning, behavioral, or personal-care needs.
- Compliance: Ability to follow IEPs, teacher direction, school procedures, and strict confidentiality requirements.
